CDENVIRO S:MAX G NOMINATED FOR MOST INNOVATIVE NEW TECHNOLOGY AWARD
The CDEnviro S:MAX G sludge screening system has been nominated in the Most Innovative New Technologycategory of the prestigious Water Industry Achievement Awards. CDEnviro S:MAX and D:MAX systems are used by Enviro-Clean on a number of sites across Scotland and help Scottish Water save thousands of pounds in waste disposal costs.
Willie Lindsay at Scottish Water commented on our Treatment Plant:
“When Enviro-Clean approached me with the benefits of such technology, I did not believe it at first. How could I save money when I had to pay for yet another piece of plant? However, when the plant started to immediately produce clean-washed grit that was fit for recycling, I was astonished. The environmental and financial savings cannot be ignored. The D:Max is the way forward, anything else is now old-fashioned and costly.“
We would like to congratulate our friends at CDEnviro for the great achievement and wish them good luck at the award-giving ceremony on May 23!

CDEnviro’s Innovation leads to awards shortlisting
CDEnviro’s S:MAX G – a sludge screening system used in the pre-treatment stage in waste water treatment – is a finalist for the category of Most Innovative New Technology in the Water Industry Achievement Awards.
An industry first – the S:MAX G uses high-frequency vibrations to recover grit and rag from the process line. The S:MAX G, launched in 2016, is a configuration of the S:MAX which screens rag. The S:MAX G includes new technologies which can separate rag and grit as independent outputs. Grit is removed in the pre-treatment stage, reducing wear and maintaining capacity in tanks further down the treatment line.
Its abilities have been proved at Northumbrian Water, which was experiencing efficiency loss due to grit in its digesters. Each one needed to be cleaned out when capacity reached 250 tonnes; typically every seven years.
Cleaning costs in the wastewater treatment industry are substantial with 50% loss of production for two weeks, pre-processing costs, supplementary transportation, additional man hours, 0% production for a further two weeks, and the cost of a cleaning contractor and final disposal. A 1,000m3 digester clean out could cost up to £100,000.
In August 2016, Northumbrian water trialled the S:MAX G at a site with three digesters. Extrapolated data indicates that over a seven year period, 525 tonnes could be processed effectively, and therefore would not enter the digester tanks. This would result in the digester tanks only having to be cleaned out every 23 years.
Peter Hayes, Business Development Executive at CDEnviro, said, “We work closely with our customers to identify innovative ways to solve problems, so we’re delighted that our wastewater solution has been shortlisted in this award. In the wastewater treatment industry, the problems associated with rag and grit have troubled operators for years.”
“These problems have almost become tolerated in treatment works today with operators becoming comfortable with a duty/standby approach being adopted. This however is not addressing the core issue; rag and grit need to be removed from the flow process as quickly as possible. With our innovative screening system we, and our customers, are tackling the issue head-on.”
The Award winners will be announced on the night of Tuesday 23 May at a ceremony at The Vox, Birmingham.
